The Roxie cinema is the natural starting point for your visit to the
museum. Apart from
being the nearest building to the Guardroom/Shop (where you pay a
very modest entrance fee), the film that is shown provides you
with very good background information on how the museum has been
developed.
The film (which lasts for 20-25 minutes) starts with an aerial view of
the site taken from a light aircraft approaching the runway at the
former RAF Davidstow Moor. The
views that are then shown of the derelict buildings (which have
stood empty since the late 1940s) provide an interesting
comparison with the museum as you will see it now and show the
tremendous amount of work that has been undertaken.
The content of the film is not always the same and new
sections are added (and some old ones removed) to show any new
major event – such as the arrival of the Fairey Gannet aircraft
and the erection of the Meteorological Tower.
The soundtrack on the film is provided by Steve (co-owner
of the museum) and is often humorous in parts.
In fact to quote part of a recent review on Trip Advisor:
“His comments on the video were just
so lovely, no boring Pathé Newsreels here”.
