- two genuine WW2 Blast Shelters
that have been remarkably well-preserved |
|
At RAF Davidstow Moor there were originally a
large number of Blast Shelters on both the airfield and the
Technical and Domestic sites. Of these two have been restored and
are within the museum grounds.
As can be seen in the photographs the shelters
are of simple brick construction with external earth banks on all
sides to deflect the blast from any nearby explosion. Although there
are obviously no artefacts to see, the Blast Shelters (and also
Building 16, the Air Raid Shelter) do enable visitors to the museum
to experience what would have been their only means of protection
during an air-raid in WW2.
