This is the second of the four buildings at the
museum dedicated to the Royal Navy and almost inevitably a large
part of the display in this building relates to the Royal Marine’s
action in the Falklands Campaign.
A time-line depicts the major events that
occurred during the Falklands and there are many photographs of
ships and helicopters in action. Of particular local interest are
photographs of the pre-Campaign training activities that took
place here at Davidstow Moor Airfield.
On display in the building are models of
aircraft that took part, together with maps, belts, knives and
insignia belonging to the Royal Marines.
The video being shown is itself quite unusual.
When the British Forces attacked certain Argentinian positions,
the defending soldiers (who were mostly young conscripts) decided
that they did not want to be killed and simply abandoned their
posts – leaving everything they had behind, including their
cameras with the photographs that they had taken. The films were
collected and developed and made into the DVD that you are now
able to watch.
