The
Volunteers are the lifeblood of this museum. They bring knowledge, skills,
dedication and time. Without them the museum would not be what it is
today. They undertake all manner of projects and duties, developing new
displays, research, as well as the all important maintenance of what we
already have. Painting, greasing, printing, restoring, cleaning, the list
goes on. Current, but new projects, include working on the radar that we
acquired last winter and the Hawker Hunter that we acquired in July. We
have spent the last year collecting together the ‘ingredients’ of a
2ft gauge railway which will be laid out to represent a WW1 trench
railway. The final ingredient was a Simplex locomotive which we now have.
We find ourselves undertaking building and plastering tasks, carpentry,
electrics, ground works, the list goes on.
We have many group visits from schools, cadet forces,
motoring clubs, social clubs, youth organisations and the military. Some
of our volunteers become guides to escort them around this extensive
museum. If you think you might like to join these volunteers then please
phone Steve on 07799 1949 18 or email steve@cornwallatwarmuseum.co.uk
